Pelican Marsh offers one of the finest championship golf courses and practice facilities in Naples.

A SUCCESS STORY TO TELL

The course at Pelican Marsh Golf Club (PMGC) can best be described as “distinctive”. The international golf course architect that designed it; Robert von Hagge believes that a great golf course should be original and imaginative. His design philosophy is that the “earth” should dictate the way you play a hole, not the plantings or the trees. His “signature” design feature that he is well known for are his “moundings”, which create unique elevations that you typically don’t find on a Southwest Florida course, along with a greater number of bunkers then most.

An examination is used in golf course design and it is based on a point system, the highest possible score on an exam is 21. The 21 point examination is designed for the 0-12 handicap player (8% of golfers), 16 point examination for the 12-28 handicap player (76% of all golfers) and the 11 point examination for 28+ (16%).

PMGC is classified as -- a Championship Course. A well balanced 21-point examination was built into the Pelican Marsh Golf Course. In 2001 they hosted a Senior Tour Event and the course was selected as one of the “Top Three” courses by the players who participated in the Tour Event that year.

Although PMGC is a low handicappers dream course—the architect designed it with six sets of tee boxes, so players of all levels can enjoy the experience, from beginner to competitor, an important element of a great course.

Pelican Marsh is coming up on their 4th Anniversary as a “Member Owned Club”, and has quite a story to tell. They have enrolled over 100 new members-- during a tough economic climate when many Clubs have struggled. The Club is undergoing a million dollar renovation this summer, and it’s being done from “existing capital funds” without an assessment to its members and the Club is able to remain debt free. Members at PMGC have never had an assessment in the history of the Club. Their renovation is slated to be complete in October.

Their marketing director, was invited to speak at a Golf Inc. Conference this year, and has received calls from other National Golf Associations …wondering what exactly has been the key to their success.

There are many design features that sets Pelican Marsh apart from other Clubs, but the staff and their members seem to all agree; what makes the Club most desirable and sets it apart is its level of “service” to its members along with the most attractive fees ever offered—an unprecedented value.
